I found many postings to web that has John M. B. Watson born 1805 as son of Esther Chamblee and Jonathan Watson who died in 1827. When I found Esther in 1830, census said household made up of 1 male born 1820-1825, 1 female under 5(1825-1830), 2 females born 1820-1825, 1 female born 1815-1820, and 1 female born 1790-1800. There was no male born fitting age of John M.B. born 1805.
Postings to web said John M.B.Watson's wife was Sarah W. born 1811, and their children were Esther E, Matilda M., Benjamin, Marshall, and Larron. I followed up on this family and found them in 1850 Abbeville Co. SC, 1860 Anderson Co., SC, 1870 Hart Co., GA., and 1880 Hart Co., GA. His name on census in 1850, 1870, & 1880 was John A. Watson. It was never listed as JMB Watson.
I followed up on Esther's daughters also. I found Elizabeth(born about 1817) and Jacob Driver in 1850 Gwinnett Co., GA census. I found Caroline(born about 1826) and Thomas Todd in 1850 Gwinnett Co., GA census also. I found Emeline(born about 1825-1826) who married William Robert Cochran 27 August 1849 in Gwinnett Co., GA in 1860 Milton Co., GA, 1870 Milton Co., GA, and 1880 Milton Co., GA. Milton Co. is now a part of Fulton Co., GA. Emeline was 34, 44, & 55 making her born between 1825-1826. Elizabeth died between 1853-1856(when Jacob remarried).
I haven't yet found Esther and Emeline in 1850 but Esther is next door to Emeline in 1870 and in same household in 1860. I haven't found Esther in 1880 though Emeline is still in Milton Co., GA.
Has anyone seen copy of material in Deed Book S, page 194 at Anderson County, SC courthouse? Ethel Spear Updikes used this as basis of names of Esther's children that seems to be source for much on-line info
There is a JMB Watson in Gwinnett Co., GA in 1850. A JMB Watson paid taxes in Anderson Co., SC in 1840 and 1841. A JMB Watson is in 1860 Calhoun Co., AR census. This JMB Watson is Jonathan Mazire Benjamin Watson. He was born about 1821 in SC.
Really hope someone can share more light on the subject.
