Dear Carole:

After your kind words, I wish I could hand you the completed and correct "Nancy WATSON m John ACUFF Genealogy", but unfortunately I cannot.

However, you can rest assurred she was not the dau of:

A "William Bearskin WATSON" for which one could ask:

In what Documentation ie., Census, Court, Deed, Probate, Tax or Vital Record in Virginia can the name: "William Bearskin WATSON" be found?

Nor is she the dau of William WATSON m Martha PLEASANTS.

The following Research Steps may prove helpful in your search.

ITEM #1: Since you have the Marriage Date of Nancy WATSON and John ACUFF, Jr., and the Location In: Henry Co., VA., the first item of business would be to secure a copy of the Marriage Bond from the Henry Co., VA Court.

QUESTION: Who signed the Marriage Bond for Nancy and for John. Their Respective Fathers may have done so.

ITEM #2: Next if you go to:

You will be able to access the 1790 Henry Co., VA Census Records as obtained from the Tax Records of the County.

Listed Are:

John ACOFF, Jr.
John ACOFF, Sr.
William ACOFF

Michael WATSON
William WATSON

NOTE: Lineage Societies deem most marriages in the 18th Century occurred between two people living some 7 miles apart. This distance could be covered in a day by a Gentleman on horseback, to woo his prospective bride in the morning and return home in time, for evening chores. A careful study of the Tax and Deed Records of Henry Co., should help to determine the approximate locations for the ACUFF and the WATSON Families.

ITEM #3: Michael WATSON's Will {he of the 1790 Henry Co., VA Census/Tax List} is on Record in the Henry Co., VA Courthouse, Will Book 2, pg 132, Dated: 22nd June 1805.

NOTE: If you go to Google and enter:

"Michael WATSON Will, Henry Co., VA", you will be able to retrieve a transcript of the Document on-line.

ITEM #4: United States Federal Census 1850 Grainger Co., TN., 12th District, pg 10

Household #1519

John ACUFF - 81 M - b VA
Nancy ACUFF - 77 F - b VA
Elizabeh ACUFF - 37 - F

CONCLUSION: The publication of incorrect Lineages on the World-Wide Web is prolific and in many instances shows an astonishing lack of proper research.

The individuals publishing:

Nancy WATSON m John ACUFF was the dau of:

William Bearskin WATSON or William WATSON m Patty PLEASANTS should at least consider John ACUFF and Nancy WATSON had:

.......................................................... Ten {10} Sons - And Not A One Was Named - WILLIAM!!!!!..............................

Once Again "Thank You" - for your kind words.

With Best Regards,
