WATSON-HILL Muscogee & Harris Cos., GA

I am not related to the WATSONs except by four intermarriages with my HILL relatives. I would like to find out more information about these WATSONs & descendants.

Nathan WATSON was first married to Rebecca MOTE, 13 May 1860, Muscogee Co, GA. Dock is the son of this first marriage, as I understand it, also Jack. Nathan later married my Great-Great Grandfather's sister Mary HILL. She died 7 Feb 1919 in Columbus, Muscogee Co, GA, & was buried in the LAND Cemetery in Harris Co, GA, just over the Muscogee Co line. I have no death date for Nathan. His brother Alexander "Alex" WATSON married another HILL sister Melissa "Liss" HILL; Alex died before 1928, & Aunt Liss died by 1940 but have not found a death certificate for either & know of no children of this marriage although there could have been some. Sarah WATSON married William Henry "Uncle Bill" HILL, brother of Mary & Melissa.

William Henry "Bill" HILL m Sarah WATSON 1 Jan 1867, Chambers Co, AL; she died before 1876

Mary HILL m Nathan WATSON 27 Jun 1870 Muscogee Co, GA

Liss HILL m Alexander WATSON 13 Sep 1875 Muscogee Co, GA

Albert R. WATSON (s/o Nathan WATSON & Mary HILL) m Emily or Emma HILL (d/o Uncle Bill HILL & Sarah WATSON)--don't have date

Mrs. Emma WATSON, 98, of 4410 Third Ave., died Tuesday night at The Medical Center. A native of Lee County, Ala., she had lived in Columbus 50 years. Survivors include a son, Ollie WATSON; two sisters, Mrs. Annie COLLINS and Mrs. Jesse WYATT, all of Columbus; a brother, B.H. HILL, Thomasville, N.C., and three grandsons, Donald J. WATSON, William WATSON and Jimmy WATSON, all of Columbus.

I am curious about who the HILL children are in the above household. Maybe born out of wedlock?

The folks above were probably working & living at Clapp's Factory, then three miles north of Columbus, now in the city limits. Many of these folks were probably also buried there--but no markers remain for them.

I believe that the following census entry should have been WATSON, not WATTS as in the census transcription, because the children's names fit, with the HILL children above becoming WATSONs--but not sure why the father is Alex, not Nathan:

Several of the WATSONs are buried in Double Churches Cemetery, Columbus, Muscogee Co, GA.

I have not been able to find Nathan or Alex in census records after 1880.
