I have no solid basis for claiming a relationship.There are plenty of William Watsons.My problem is that John Charles Watson was one of over 100 John Watsons answering the Federal Census living in Missouri in 1870.And there were over 3,000 alive at the same time as my JC living in Scotland.
That is why I have my DNA Y-chromosome markers and the subclade testing M284 showing positive for male ancestors in Lowland Scotland.The surname DeForrest is virtually unknown in Scotland.We believe GG grandfather either began the use, or continued the use, of what amounts to a business name DeForrest to avoid legal issues with competing John Watsons.
My DNA markers are listed on several genetic genealogy sites and someday an ancestor will match.Then more pieces to the puzzle can be set in their proper place.
