Mary,
My dad served in the 561st Field Artillery Battalion in the Army in WW2 in Europe.I learned this last year that the 561st FAB has reunions, and I attended the last one in May, 2004, in Lincoln, NE.There were 6 living veterans attending.
When I got home I resolved to find as many living veterans as I could, and In cases where the veteran is deceased, to find family members. Thus my search.
Thus far I've found 8 living veterans in addition to the 20-25 that were already known.I've found about 15 sets of families of deceased veterans, one of which is my dad.
The end result is to let people know about the reunions; the next one will be in mid-May in Washington, DC.
The roster I have list a lot of the men by last name only, typical military protocol. The Archives AAD database shows over 9000 Watsons that served in the Army in WW2.Since I have only a last name, my only reasonable hope is to get lucky and find someone that knows or of knew the Watson that actually served in the 561st FAB.
I've tried to be pretty specific on my criteria so as to not waste other people's time, and to avoid doing the same for myself.
I don't think there is any direct connection to AR in my posting.I'll certainly check to see if there is because with over 9000 possibilities, AR isn't the only location possible.
If you can be of any help, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Gerald Vowell
