Dear Dale,
Just was reading your posting re: NC Watson lines.Do you have any further information on John Watson or his wife, Mahala Long?
I am descended from Maj. Patrick Watson, born 31 Dec 1751 in York Co., PA, (son of Hugh Watson and Elizabeth __?__),who came to live in Rutherford Co., NC circa 1770. (I have exact dates somewhere, but not in my head.)His father, Hugh, died in 1768, and when the convoluted estate was settled, Elizabeth and her children all came south and settled on Cathey's Creek. He had a brother named John, who so far is very sketchy in our records. Also, Patrick's son, Daniel, married Jane "Jincy" Long, daughter of John Long and Isabella Long (they were cousins).
Evidently, there were several Scots-Irish Presbyterian families who left York and Lancaster Counties in PA to avoid Indian troubles, and all settled in the area of Old Tryon County, and just over what became the state line into SC, spreading eventually to other areas of NC, as well as GA, ALA, MISS, TX and KY -- even up here to Illinois.Watson, Long, Wallace, Andrews, Biggerstaff, Patten and Gettys (as in Gettysburg, PA) are names that are interrelated from the 1750's through the Civil War era.My line, from Daniel and Jincy's son, John Albert Watson, and his son Samuel Allison Watson (my g-g-gr-father)traveled from Rutherford co., NC into Tennessee, where Sam's daughter, Mary Jane Flora Ruth married Morgan Daniel Morris, and they had my grandfather, Carl Morris. We take much pride in that we have family photos documenting these people, including John Albert and his wife, taken before his death in 1894 -- they were both born in 1815.
If there is any information that I might be able to help you with, please let me know.As I said, Patrick's brother John is only vaguely traced, as far as we know, and I'd love to hook up with his descendants--to share info and details, and maybe to fill in each other's blanks.I am at present sorting my deceased Mother's 70 odd years of genealogical research, and if I run across anything regarding your folks, I'll be sure to let you know.
I just double checked in FTM.I have John Watson (Patrick's brother, born 1753 in York Co., PA; d 9 July, 1812 in Rutherford Co., NC.I have no spouse listed, but a son named Hughey who married a Patten girl, daughter of Elijah Patten, Sr. (Elijah Patten's wife was Nancy Margaret Watson, daughter of George and Nancy (or Mary) Miller Watson -- George was the brother of Maj. Patrick, my ancestor). You see how quickly this tree gets twisted in on itself.
Holler if I can help.
Best regards,
Sarah Erwin
