I want to make sure that I understand the Thompson lineage that you mentioned.I know that William Thompson, Sr. married Rachel Coleman, and I know that one of their children was William Thompson, Jr..Was the John Thompson that you mentioned a brother of "William Junior" or a brother of "William Senior?" (I assume the former, but I just want to make sure).
My records show that a William Thompson in the Pittsylvania Co., VA area had a son named John Thompson, and this John Thompson married Sarah "Sally" Fears in 1790 (the Fears family was out of Prince Edward Co., VA).Was this the John Thmopson of whom you speak?John and Sarah (Fears) Thompson had a son named Jesse R. Thompson, and he married Jane Gibson (and Jesse ended-up in the Orange/Guilford Co., NC area by at least the late-1830s, where he was associated with my William Davidson family).I understand that Gibsonville, NC was named for the overall family of Jane Gibson.I also know that there was a Nathan Thompson in the above family in Pittsylvania Co., VA.
The above Coleman family also married into my maternal Brown family in Essex Co., VA (Daniel Brown married Elizabeth Coleman).Daniel (died about 1747) and Elizabeth left Essex and moved to Orange/Culpeper Co., VA.The use of the "Coleman family names" of "Spilsby" and "Grizzell" were used later as given names in this Brown family.
Any additional info on the "family tree" of William Thompson and Rachel Coleman would be appreciated.Do you know of any living male Thompsons from this family who might join the Thompson DNA test?
