Hi, Bob -- Andrew Jefferson Wathen, b. 24 Sept. 1847 Meade Co., d. 331 Jan. 1936 Pulaski Co., Ill., married 11 Aug. 1882 Sally Ann Logsdon (b. 4 March 1864 Leopold, Ind, d. 16 June 1952 Cairo, Ill). They had ten children.AJ was the son of William Riley Wathen, b. 7 Feb. 1828 Concordia, Ky, bapt. 20 April 1828 St. Theresa's in Rhodelia.he d. 15 Sept. 1878 in Breck: Co., m. 15 May 1853 at St. Theresa's Honore Logsdon, dau. of Johann and Mary (Lacy) Logsdon (b. 22 Sept. 1821 in Stpringfield, died after 1880 census in Breck: Co.They had 8 children.William Riley was the son of Raphael Wathen, a farmer and shoemaker, b. ca. 1799 in Md, according to Meade Co. census of 1850.He married Malinda Hagan in nelson Co., Ky. on 31 Aug. 1825 (Stonecliff, Mary Harrol: Nelson Co. Marriage Bonds) and they imediately moved to Meade Co.Malinda was the dau. of Hazekiah and Nancy (Clark) Hagan and was b. ca. 1800 in Ky., d. 1845 in Meade Co.Both listed in church census of 1846 of St. Thomas Church in Meade Co.They had 8 children.
Now we come to the problem - and perhaps your family can help.No one has been able to establish with certitude who Raphael was.The closest we've come is the tradition in one branch that his father was "ol' Joe". There is an unidentified Joseph in 1810 Nelson Co. census living next to Thomas and Wilfred Wathen with a son the right age.No proof yet.
