WEED, JAMES
At age 15 years James Weed, who appeared large of his age, was able to do a soldier’s duty to the satisfaction of his officers.In 1780 he served two weeks at Fort Stamford as a substitute for Israel Pennoyer of Sharon, Connecticut.This service was under Capt. Stoddard and Col. David Waterbury.In the spring of 1781 he enlisted in the State Troops or Town Guards under Capt. Isaac Lockwood and Lt. Nathan Howe for one year, and in the spring of 1782 he re-enlisted for one year.James Reed was born at Stamford 28 January 1766, son of Aaron and Elizabeth (Pennoyer) Weed, who were married 11 January 1764.His brother, Charles was also a soldier.He married at Darien, 8 January 1788, Sarah Waterbury, born 12 December 1760, daughter of Samuel and Martha (Holly) Waterbury.She died 6 March 1854, aged 94 years.She was aged 87 in 1848 when she applied for James’s pension.James died 22 June 1844 at New York City where he had resided since December 1794.His obituary appeared in the Stamford Sentinel.

i. Sarah, born 26 November 1789.
ii. Henry, born 29 June 1791.
iii. Elizabeth, twin, born 30 November 1793, died 6 October 1858 aged 64.She was buried in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Stamford.
iv. Cortland, twin, born 30 November 1793.
