Hunting for info on my husband's WASHBURN ancestors. Been searching for years, but can't get any further back than Smith WASHBURN, my hubbie's great-grandfather below. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Smith WASHBURN (poss. James Smith or Smith James WASHBURN or Smith Sanford or Sanford Smith WASHBURN)
b.1800-10 NY/VA/MA/MD/?, d. est 1848-50 possibly Kanawha VA. M. 1838 in Bath Co VA to Lavenia WALTON (dau. of Edmond P.WALTON & Elizabeth MAUPIN of VA) - b.1810-15 Albermarle or Bath Co VA, d. 1891 in Lewis Co MO (note: Lavenia remarried as a widow in 1854 to Abraham LANGE, who d. 1865 VA.

Smith & Lavenia's children: ---

1) Benjamin WASHBURN b. 1839-41 VA migrated c.1857 to MO, d.1920 Shelby Co MO. m bef 1862 to Sarah JETT (may be dau. of William JETT & Martha DICKERSON)
2) Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" WASHBURN - b.c. 1845, migrated aft 1863 to MO, d.1913 Lewis Co MO. m. Henry G. MILLER
3) William P. WASHBURN - b. 1844-46 VA, migrated c.1863 to MO, d.1872 Lewis Co MO. m. Mary --?--
4) James Thomas WASHBURN - b. 1848/49 Augusta Co VA, migrated c.1863 to MO, d. 1912 Lewis Co MO. m. 1880 in Lewis Co, MO to Addie DUELL (dau.of John DUEL & Margaret NAPHUS of KY > MO)

Although Smith married, and possibly died, in VA, he may have been from the north, as my father-in-law pronounced his name "Worshborn", which seems to be more prevalent up north.

Another interesting factoid, my husband's DNA Y-chromosome matches include both WASHBURNs and SMITHs. His confirmed haplogroup is I1.

Thanks
