Since I have not done a lot of research on the Washburns of Cul. Co. VA, my input may not mean a lot, but I have a couple of thoughts as to the children of John and Susanna Washburn. It is possible that they did have 12 children and that those children had the same names as the list posted by Ernie, but I believe that the dates of birth are incorrect for children born to John and Susanna and that some of the dates are correct for children born to the sons of John and Susanna, especially Ely, whom I believe was also Elias.
If you give John an earlier date of birth according to other records (land records, etc.), then the dates for the birth of their children could have been ealier. Ely, for example, could have been born early enough to have been the father of the children born after ca 1750. I don't think that you have an exact date of birth for Ely, only an estimate, is that correct? Of course, Susanna could not have been born as early as 1700, and been the mother of all of these children if the dates are correct anyway, so that points to incorrect dates or at least some of the children. As I recall, there was at one time a date of birth of around 1735 for Ely, but it was thought that there was too large a gap between Ely and the other children. It is possible that he was born ca. 1735 and children born in between died in infancy and their deaths not recorded or Ely could have been either John's son by an ealier marriage or Susanna's by an earlier marriage or relationship and used John's surname.
Another thought is that the John Washburn in the 1726 Spotsylvania Co. record was perhaps, John Washborn/Washborne and may have been a different person. Also, perhaps the Washborns of Eastern VA and Washburns of Cul. Co. VA were not even the same family.
Have you ever been able to tie the Washburns of Culpeper Co. VA to the Washborns of Eastern VA? It seems to me that John Washburn of Cul. Co. VA may have belonged to the MA Washburns and that the Washborns of Eastern VA may have been a different family entirely.
You can both tell me that I am all wet with these thoughts and it's okay with me.
