For some 17 years cousin Craig and I had a (friendly) disagreement over the identity of Hannah Washabaugh who married Peter Heck on 12 April, 1789 in Frederick, MD. Craig felt she was the youngest daughter of Dilman Washabaugh, while I felt she was the oldest child of John Henry Washabaugh, Dilman's son. Shortly after his book, "260 Years of the Washabaugh Family in America" we finally came up with proof. Craig printed the following addendum but I believe it only went to those who purchased a book after that time. If you have a book, or know of the location of one, please print this and add it to the book.
ADDENDUM
Concerning HECK, LOWRY and McKNIGHT famiies.
This research received AFTER publication of this book.
(From Land Record G-7, pages 454 & 455, Hagerstown Courthouse, Washington County, Maryland):
DEPOSITION RECORDED JULY 28th 1791
Taken at the House of Col. Henry Shryock in Hagerstown
"Jacob ROHRER being first duly affirmed, deposeth and saith that Christian SHANK, DeValt LEISINGER, Jacob LOWRY, Michael LOWRY, John RUSH, Jacob COHENOUR, Christly SCHNAVELY and himself all married SISTERS, daughters of Dealman (Dilman) Washabaugh now deceased---- that Christian Shank having purchased from the executors the Plantation of said Washabaugh------"
In addition to proving that the LOWEY brothers married daughters of (1st gen.) Dilman Washabaugh; it also establishes that Hannah Washabaugh HECK was the daughter of (2nd gen.) Henry Washabaugh (Affects pages 22, 36, 37, 50 & 51.)
(From McKnight descendants near Uniontown, Pennsylvania);
"Mary Washabaugh was the name of the previously unknown daughter of (2nd gen.) Henry Washabaugh" (See pages 36 and 50)
(From: Buffalo, Wyoming Historical Society):
"In pioneer days, teenage mule skinner John Washabaugh drove a 6-mule supply wagon supplying Fort Phil Kearney. He habitually crossed a stream in a certain place. The trail which he established became the MAIN STREET of the town of Buffalo, Wyoming, which later grew up." (See page 60).
