This is the information I received from a descendant of this Patience Wash and James Ray, who were married across the border from Henry Co. Va. in Stokes Co., N.C., 2 Dec. 1796. They stayed in Henry Co., Va. and had the following children named John, b 1797, William, b 1803, James, b 1808, Andrew, b 1808/9?, Mary, b 1815, Joseph, b 1817, and Hannah, b 1821.If you connect to any of these children, let me know and I will give you more particulars and the name of the descendant who gave me this information.
Patience Wash was named for her maternal grandmother Patience Gatewood whomarried her first husband, a "cousin"William Gatewood who probably died during the smallpox epidemic near Bowling Green, Caroline Co., during ca. 1764.Their only child, Ann Frazier Gatewood, "Nancy" appears to be named for a personal friend named Ann Frazier/Fraser since the name Frazier is not a family name. Patience Gatewood was named in turn after her mother Patience Reeves who was the second wife of Richard Gatewood.
