Years ago it was thought that a Mary Ann or Ann Lambert was the wife of James Warthen (d. 1781). Never proven and I believe the search was dropped(?) Although still unproven, this is what I have found and if this is old news I appoligize.
James Warthen Sr. d.1781. In 1782 on the Heads of Families in Virginia, Merklenburg Co. the following are listed:
John, John Jr, Joseph and Jervis (Jarvis) LAMBERT. Living next to these gentlemen is a Anne WORTHEN (3 whites in hh) and a James HARGROVE. Ann is the only Worthan listed.
In 1785 Joseph Lambert is the bondsman for James Warthen and Nancy Puckett in Warren Co. NC AND in 1790 Joseph Lamberts son in law, Bennett Hargrove (son of James Hargrove) is the bondsman for Wm. Warthen and Phebe Puckett. Also on the 1790 Chatham Co. NC census, James Warthen is found living next to Joseph and John Lambert.
If Anne is not the mother of James and possibly William, she was indeed tied to the Lamberts somehow.
