David Barrett "Capt., War of 1812"

In regard to my last msg here, I should clarify, that I specifically seek information which would prove that David Barrett, was a "Captain, War of 1812".
This is what many prior "historians" have put forth, even to the point of Barrett having been honored (a century later) with a memorial stone, a monument which states those exact facts.
This is a very honorable title applied to him. I would like to verify that it is a deserved title.
Otherwise, the honor should go to the men who really do deserve to be honored.
Note that I am well aware that a first-hand source indicates that, in Apr.(?) of 1812, that Barrett was elected(?) a "Captain" of an independent Firelands militia group. What I need to verify, is that Barrett's "militia" group was later officially recognized by the State of Ohio or U.S. military AS OF THE declaration of War, in June, or at least in July or August of 1812.
[*-the first-hand source says that Barrett's group was first mustered in "April" 1812...however, Ohio militia laws of 1812 should be consulted to see if that is indeed the month which was mandated by law, year 1812, for the mustering of the local-militia companies.]
If Barrett's "captainship" is not officially recognized* by the appropriate organizations of that time (...or at least officially recognizable now, using established military official guidelines and standards..), DURING WARTIME, then Barrett should not hold the "official" title of "Captain, War of 1812".
In the very least, I would like to find some bit of evidence that "Barrett's Company" were at least active in SOME RECOGNIZED MILITARY CAPACITY, DURING the months of June, July, and/or Aug., 1812.
I had hoped to find some "military historians" ( rather than "colloquial historians") subscribed to this War-of-1812 message-board...is there anyone here any more?...or, is history a dying art?
