I have found a deed where a Private William Nichols conveyed 40 acres of land he received for serving in War of 1812, Warrant #51847. It says he served under Capt. Hamby, 3rd Reg Tennessee Volunteers.
Can anyone point me to where I might find more information about this Private William Nichols ?

Any direction would be appreciated.
