Judy,

The only thing that I found on Major John Roberts III was that he served twice during the War of 1812. He has two service records at the National Archives. He served first with the 3rd Battalion (roll box 176, roll record 18583) and the with the 36th Regiment of the NY Militia (roll box 176, roll record 18606). You would have to order these records to see when and where he served.

I did find out that the 36th regiment was from Clinton County, NY (Plattsburgh).
