War of 1812
My GG Grandfather Joseph Sewell was drafted at the age of 19 at the Fairfax County Court House in Virginia on Aug 19, 1814 - discharged Feb 1815 at Ellicott Mills, Maryland.
He served under Capt. John Millans Co of Infantry, 2nd Battalion, 60th Regiment, Commanded by Col. George Minor.
Can anyone tell me if he would have been a resident of Fairfax County or could he have come form a near by county. I am trying to find out where he lived before for he was drafted, so I can find out who his parents were.
He was born May 1795 in Virginia - d. April 20, 1858 Baltimore, Md. He married Margaret Freeman also of Va.
She filed for widows pension after his death in Baltimore, Md and I was told no record exsists. I have a copy of a monthly pension roll for Maryland with her name on it along with some other ladys and how much they were paid from June 20, 1867 - March 20, 1870.
I know she would have had to provide proof of marriage, I thought that the location of the marriage might help me narrow it down. If anyone can look into this and check and see if there is other information that I am missing from his files I would really appreciate it, I have heard that sometimes you don't get everything when you send for it.
Thank You
Patricia
