War of 1812 - Battle of New Orleans - Burials???
According to the records that I received from the national archives, my ancestor, Elkanah Anderson, was a soldier in the 2nd Regiment of the West Tennessee Militia, included in his military files is a letter written by a Captain Ellis that states that Elkanah "Died at New Orleans in the service of the United States", does anyone know if this means that he died in action or is it possible that he died of disease? Also, as the records give no information on where Elkanah was buried, does anyone have any ideas on where his grave might be?
The only other information that I have is a letter that was in his file indicating that his wife applied for and received some sort of compensation or pension for his death.
Thanks for your help,
Judy
