Thank you for your response to my query on my ancestor, Col. John Snapp (1746-1818) "if" he had served in the War of 1812 from either Virginia or Tennessee.
I saw this deed dated in the year of 1817 which refered to him as "Colonel John Snapp) and I assumed he "might" have served in the War of 1812?
He did have a son, John Snapp, Jr. (1788-1830) who did serve as Captain of the Second Battalion of the 58th Regiment of Rockingham County Virginia Militia in the War of 1812. However, he resigned his commission on Sept. 14, 1814 as the family was moving to Washington Co., Tennessee in early 1815.
However, John Snapp, Sr. (1746-1818) DID serve as an Ensign in Captain John Tipton's Company of Dunmore (Shenandoah) County Militia 1775-1776 during the Rev. War.
