Hi Wulma,
Yes, I have seen contradictory lisitings, some using wide spelling variations and some even listing Charity as a Springsteen. Some files list Geertrudje Springsteen and Charity Blackwell as both having been married to Daniel Van Vliet. I have not seen any files listing children from the marriage to Geertrudje but I have seen detailed files lisiting Charity as the mother of Margaret and her five siblings. Geertrudje seems to have been married around the age of sixteen, c.1746. I have no death date for her but I have seen files agreeing with your info on her parents. Charity, on the other hand, lived to be about eighty. It seems likely that Geertrudje was the first wife and died young - no info to confirm this conjecture. I found a reference to Charity Blackwell being the mother of Daniel William (Van) Vliet, and Daniel was listed in another source as being one of Margaret's five sibs, so this is somewhat of a cross - check. The family seems to have dropped the "Van" from their name at some point. Daniel William Vliet was listed in that file as being married to Margaret Van Ness (Daniel Van Ness' sister?). Margaret (Van) Vliet's great grandfather, from the Netherlands, was Jan Janse Van Der Vliet and seems to have been one of the earliest settlers at New Amsterdam. --CW
