Thank you for writing.I'm not sure if can make a connection, nor can I rule it out.The following is the story that has been passed down in our family, over the generations, about James:
Captain James Robert's parents lived in England. His father, who was a merchant, married the daughter of landed nobility. Her folks feeling she had married "low", disowned her. They had five sons. She finally went to see them and her family never heard of her again. One day a son walked by her parents' home and thought that he saw her at a third story window.
When 7 years old, James Robert was placed on a ship as a cabin boy.The captain gave him a good education and he in time became captain himself. The captain taught him to paint and he left a self portrait of himself and a picture of his ship. In the early 1840's, after more than 15 years of sea life,James sailed his ship through canals and the Great Lakes to Milwaukee, WI where he left his job as captain and settled on the land.
