Your post addresses a couple of apparently unrelated Brown families (though both trace back to Essex Co., VA). One line was headed by Francis Brown "I" (he married an Elizabeth, who some claim was Elizabeth Cole) and the other line (that went to Albemarle Co., VA) was headed by a man with the unual name of Boikenhead (I have seen several spellings) Brown (he married a Landrum). I think that you have the lineage off a little bit on the Francis Brown "I" line.

The Daniel Brown who married Elizabeth Coleman was a SON (not a bother) of the Francis Brown "II" who supposedly married Elizabeth Allen. Frances Brown "II" left his will in Essex Co., VA around 1708/1709, and an unknown (but probably a cousin or an uncle) Thomas Brown was a witness or executor. Francis Brown "II" was the son of Francis Brown "I" who had left his own will in Essex Co., VA in 1691/1692.

Francis Brown "I" and his wife Elizabeth had another son who was named Daniel Brown "I," and Daniel Brown "I" married Jane Copeland. Daniel Brown "I" (son of Francis Brown "I") and the younger Daniel Brown "II" (son of Francis Brown "II") are sometimes confused by researchers. Daniel Brown "II" and his wife Elizabeth Coleman eventually moved to Orange/Culpeper Co., VA, where Daniel "II" died about 1747. Daniel Brown "II" had a brother who we call Francis Brown "IV," but we show that this Francis Brown "IV" did not marry or have any children (though we are not 100% sure about that).

Daniel Brown "I" and his wife Jane Copeland had a son who we call Francis Brown "III." He supposedly married a women named Katarin (her last name is unknown) and had children named Nelly Brown and Cornelius Brown.

There was yet another/fifth Francis Brown in Essex Co., VA (born about 1700; he married a Christina Unknown; left his will in Chesterfield Co., VA around 1759, as I recall), and we refer to him as "mystery" Francis Brown. I suspect that he was a son of the above-mentioned "mystery" Thomas Brown (i.e., the witness for the will of Francis Brown "II" in 1708/1709), especially since this "mystery" Francis Brown had a son named Thomas. Per DNA testing on living male Browns, it strongly appears that this "mystery" branch was from the same overall Brown family as Francis Brown "I" (and there are also a couple of deeds in Essex in the mid-1700s where members of both lines signed as witnesses for one another).

We have no Daniel Brown in this family who married an Elizabeth Smith. What is the source of your information for such a marriage/couple? Thanks!
