The census is often wrong...keep that in mind. Have you seen a death certificate for this Jeff Wardlow? I have access to Texas death certificates from the beginning to the early 1970s at the Dallas library, and I'm interested in tracking down death certificates for Jeff Wardlow's generation just to be able to pinpoint where the children of John Lewis were born. Jeff's death certificte might say where his mother was born. Better, yet, who his mother was!! I need death dates of family members, though.

The Manos connection is interesting. In just some gentle poking around the internet I found a family by the name of Manus in the areas of TN where the Lewis family lived. I'm wondering if the Matilda Manos you mentioned is connected to the Lewis family...her mother might be a Lewis?

According to my notes Jane Wardlow was living next door to her married niece in Hunt Co., TX (I think in 1880). She was alone in that children (no 18 year old Jefferson Wardlow!!) or spouse with her. I will have to pull my records to give you an exact census year. This niece was the daughter of Wiley Lewis. Any way, they are all staying near each other. I sort of think that by 1880, the niece was deceased and her remarried husband was next door to Jane Wardlow.

I was recently contacted by someone doing research on another Lewis sister--Margaret who married 1.) Walter Daughtery and 2.) John Despain. I'm waiting to hear back from her.

Listen, I'm going to the Dallas Library tomorrow to do some research, and I'm headed to east Texas next week. I will go right through Hunt and Hopkins counties. I can stop and look for obits if I know death dates.... Email me privately (my email is not hidden--hit my name link!). Looking forward to hearing from you... Kathy
