Hi Jane, I'm not directly related, but lived next to a daughter of a David Wardlow, Mary [Wardlow]Poole in Glendora while growing up many years ago during the 1950's. She was born 17 Nov 1887 and died in Feb 1976, in Orange County. Her son in law went to high school with my mom. She was quite a person and told me many stories about her family which would make a very interesting history study. Specifically, her father had been a Circuit Preacher in Tennessee before coming to California where he befriended one of the Spanish rancho landgrant owners in Duarte - El Monte area and was given some land in the process. She spent some of her childhood years in Duarte, but also told me that her father owned land on Signal Hill. I believe he sold it before the oil discovery there. Wardlow Road is supposedly named after him. She also said many times that either her mother or grandmother was Cherokee [I can't remember which.] Hope this is helpful information.
