Tonia, You may not need the lead, but I do research on a Ward/Word family in NE Alabama. If you are not certain that your WARd was only in birmingham, then you may want to check out Marshall and Jackson counties. I came across a newton Ward/Word (he is listedd both ways). this would not be your relative as he died in Jackson county in 1895 at the age of 35, but I do know that he had relatives in the area. However, please know that--we had an eventful life---and death. May very well not be attached to your family but I thought the name unusual.
