Abner Ward Born 1812-15 SC

Abner C. Ward was born in South Carolina in 1812 He moved to Georgia before 1830 and married Sarah Lloyd born in Georgia 1814, they moved to Coosa, Coosa County, Ala between 1841 and 1843. Abner and two of his sons Obediah Ward and Richard Ward fought at Williamsburg where Obediah and Richard died in 1862. I heard that Abner fought at Gettysburg, and lost an arm.
In 1860 Abner Colon Ward age 48 lived in Shelby County Alabama, with his Wife Sarah age 46 and family Obediah Ward (son) age 18, Richard Ward (son) age 16, Nancy Ward age 14, Elizabeth ("Betsey") Ward age 12, Rachael Ward age 11, Jno Ward (son) age 10, Sarah D Ward age 8. Abner and Sarah also had a son named William who was around 21 years of age and no longer lived in the family home by 1860. William and Obediah were both born in Georgia, all of the other children were born in Alabama.

Abner stayed in Shelby County, Alabama until around 1878 when he was said to have died.....we all know how that works. In 1880 Abner Ward born in South Carolina around 1815 pops up in Paris, Delay, & Dallas area of Lafayette County, Mississippi with a different very young wife (for a man in his late 60's) and several young children.
Mary Ward (Wife) age 30 born Ga.
John Ward (son) age 11 born in Alabama
Mary Ward (Dau.) age 9 born in Alabama
Leonidas Ward (son) age 7 Born in Alabama
Robt. H. Ward (son) age 5 Born in Alabama <-my Grandfather
William N. Ward (son) age 3 also born in Alabama.

The 1890 Census was not very good at all, but in the 1900 Census; I found Walter C. Ward, born 1812 South Carolina living in the Randolf Community of Pontotoc County, Mississippi, The very next name on the Census sheet was William N. Ward, Abner's youngest son. The Census information said Walter C. Ward was a widower and was drawing a federal pension. I guess you are asking why does this sound familiar? Ever hear of Delaney Bramlett from Delaney and Bonnie? He was born in a house in the Randolf community and was related to me somehow through Great-uncle William N. Ward.

Now the all of dates don't align with the Abner Colon Ward of Shelby, Alabama and the Abner Ward/ Walter C. Ward of Ponotoc County, MS. Abner Colon Ward was still married to Sarah Lloyd when most if not all of the children Abner Ward of Ponotoc County had with his wife Mary were born.
Maybe the Abner Ward of Mississippi was someone else and used the name Abner Ward. I know he was a Scotsman, because I inherited his Stuart/McDonald Hunter (vertical) Tartan rank five 1745 Jacobite Waist Coat and Beret.
Robert Henry Ward was born in 1874 in Alabama and lived from around 1900 to 1936 in Calhoun County, MS. He was married to Georgia Annie Melton, and had two sons and two daughters (?) Euless C. Ward born 1899, Charity Ward (Taylor)daughter born 1901, Octavia Ward (Dunn) Daughter born 1904, Clifton Ward born 1908,
In 1936 Robert H. Ward left Georgia Anne and moved to French Camp, MS., Georgia Anne told everyone he died (hell hath no fury like a woman scorned) Robert used the sir name Bard and pronounced it Beard and lived until 1959. I met him in 1958, outside of my home north of Vicksburg, MS. According to Truman M. Ward; Abner Ward also used the Bard name at one time or the other. Robert H. Ward told Truman that they were originally Stuart's and were forced to change their name because people refused to leave them alone. Robert swore to me that he was very closely related to General James Ewell Brown Stuart and Franz Bonaventura Adalbert Maria von Wittelsbach, and told me my true name was (don't laugh yet) Charles Edward Louis Philip Casimir Maria St Clair Stuart IV, and that I was 16th in line for some throne I don't have a clue to what throne he was referring.....ok now you can laugh. Total strangers have approached me trying to wrangle me out of the Jacobite Waist Coat and Beret, from what I understand it is very possible that Bonnie Prince Charlie wore this very waist coat in the 1745 rebellion.

So there lies the dilemma either Abner Colon Ward ran off with a young widow woman and changed the sir names of the children, or Abner Bard changed his and the family sir name to Ward and drew Abner Colon Ward's federal pension, or Abner Colon Ward had two families at once for the better part of a decade.

If you have heard any of these wild stories and would like to share, or you have any information on any of these characters. Please feel free to drop me a line here or email me at philward@live.com
Thanks,
Phil
