Julia was born on May 1, 1936, to the late Arthur A. Sr. and Edith Parsons Fenner in Mountain City, TN. She married the love of her life, Nathan D. Ward Jr. on August 29, 1954. Together they moved to Elizabethton, TN, in 1956 to raise their family. In 1958, Julia and Nathan became members of West Side Christian Church in Elizabethton, TN. Julia was an active member, serving as a nursery and Bible School worker, and member of the Verna Circle and Ladies’ Council. She was most involved as a member of the choir, of which she loved and sang until poor health overtook her. Her church family was so important to her. Julia worked as a cashier and front office clerk at Smithdeal’s Supermarket until it closed in 1984. She then worked at Wal-Mart 690 in Elizabethton, TN, in various positions until her retirement in 2003. Anyone who knew Julia knew that her love for family was second only to her love for God and His Son, Jesus Christ. In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Fenner, in 1995; and a sister, Louise Williams Charsha, in 1997; her father- and mother-in-law, N. D. and Sarah Ward; and brother and sisters-in-law, Lee Ward, June and Rod Swift, Hazel and Toy Vaught, Sarah Shepherd, Clifford Church, Bert Norris, and Charlotte Ward. Survivors are her husband, Nathan Ward, with whom she celebrated 55 years of marriage on August 29, 2009; her children, Kathy McAmis and fiancé, Danny Honaker, Johnson City, TN, and Beverly and Bryce McKinney, Elizabethton, TN; grandchildren, Lance and Heather McCloud, Bristol, TN, Scott and Claudia McCloud, Oswego, IL, James Brandon and Amber McKinney, Dyess Air Force Base, Abilene, TX, and her special 'Little Sweet Pea,' Brenna Julia-Katalin McKinney, Elizabethton, TN; great grandchildren, her 'Little Angel,' Hannah Lucile McCloud, Oswego, IL, Alexandria McKinney and Jake Vickers, Abilene, TX, and Devon and Elijah Church, Hampton, TN; sister and brothers include, Mary and Stanley Woody, Gray, TN, James 'Bud' Fenner, and Art and Pam Fenner, Mountain City, TN, and Jane and Sonny McCormick, Churchville, MD; her Ward brothers and sisters include Charlie Hill and Jan Ward, Mountain City, TN, Dixie Norris, Nola Church, Goldia and Jack Scott, Elizabethton, TN, and Conrad Ward, Morristown, TN; a special sister-in- law, Ginny Corona, Joppa, MD, sister-in-law, Katalin McKinney, Elizabethton, TN; and special 'Little friends,' Cole Blackwell, Grace Woodby, Jake and Claire Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Amedisys Hospice staff, RNs, LPNs, Social Workers and Spiritual Counselors who assisted Julia and her family in her final days and treated all with respect and compassion. A special thank you to Julie Combs, RN, for the comfort she provided at Julia’s passing. Also, thank you to Home Health Equipment and James, Wilson Pharmacy staff and pharmacists, ETSU Cancer Center physicians and staff, Dr. Krishnan, Dr. Rogers and Dr. Maatook, Dr. Colvett and staff of the Regional Cancer Center, the 6200 and 4500 wing RNs LPNs, PCPs and staff of the Johnson City Medical Center. Your care, compassion and kindness will never be forgotten. The family will welcome friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m., in the Chapel and at the home at other times. A celebration of Julia’s life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, TN, at 2 p.m., with Greg Key and James Curtis, Ministers, officiating. Music will be provided by Debbie Hodges and Tabitha Blackwell, vocalists, and Robbie Johnson will provide a reading. Scott Reynolds is the organist. Committal will follow the service in the Sermon on the Mount section of Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton, TN. Active pallbearers will be Luther McKeehan, Garren Woodby, John Hopson, Jerry Hodges, Brent Blackwell, and Jim Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers are Ted and Janice Hamilton, Earl and Dora Williams, Charles and Shirley VonCannon, Al and Wanda Lyons, Lynn and Libby Simerly, Van and Rachel Woodby, Glenda and Dick Oatman, Brenda and Tony Hyder, Mary Ann Shell, and her brothers and sisters in Christ at West Side Christian Church, former co-workers of Smithdeal’s and Wal-Mart 690, and friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Julia’s memory for her life served to the Lord to West Side Christian Church, 1307 West G Street, Elizabethton, TN, 37643; the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
