The first 2 results from the Warburton Surname DNA Project are in, one from Cheshire, and one from Lancashire. These show they ARE NOT RELATED. This indicates that there are at least two distinct clans of Warburtons in existence. Is this because: 1. more than one person adopted the Warburton name at the time surnames were being adopted 700 years ago? 2. one of both clans initiated by a 'non-parental event' within the last 700 years? 'Non-parental events' include both adoption and illegitimacy. We won’t be able to answer these questions until we get more participants for the project. I realise that not everyone can justify £100 for such a whimsical exercise, but there must be some of you who are sufficiently intrigued. It only requires one male per family to be tested.
