Thanks for the info, John. Sounds like a great find for you; I wonder if there are even older records stashed elsewhere too. Makes me wonder also if your early Bakers were related to my Wansors, as my 3x GGF (b. c 1785) married Catherine Baker (b. c 1789).
I've been in touch with a Baker descendant in Oyster Bay Cove who found her 3 or 4x GGF with a second wife, from whom she descended (this was at least 10 years ago). There were two children from the earlier marriage whom she felt the 2nd wife didn't want around, and that perhaps were sent to live with other families.
My Catherine Baker went to live in Lattingtown/Glen Cove at Peacocks Point with Jobe Merritt's family and it was there she met my 3x GGF John Hickman Wansor and married him in 1806, also by Rev. Marmaduke Earle. I always wondered if she was somehow related to Jobe Merritt or to his wife, whose name I don't know; they had a daughter named Freelove Merritt Wright.
I'm guessing your Wansors are the some of the many I collected from the Town of North Hempstead census records. Good luck with your research; I hope you find what you need to get back at least a few more generations!
