Does Wands name originate from Wanzer family?
Research has demonstrated that most of the families that intermarried with the Wands family in Cayuga and Otsego Co.are of German origin. They come from Palatine Germans in Schoharie, Montgomery and Fulton counties in NY.Checking the possibiliity that the Wanzer family possibily became in part Wands, one discovers that there is aWanzer cemetery in New Scotland, Albany Co., NY where the NY Wands seem to have originated. The Wands under discussion in New Scotland began to have records there ca. 1745or earlier. These individuals are not related to later immigration from Scotland. The Scottish connection didnot relate to all the families there as many were from Ireland and Germany. Would appreciate hearing from a knowledgable source about the origins of the Wands folks in the 18th century.
