Wenmecher would NOT have been the original spelling! That spelling is not German! Please visit my website. It's very large and will help you understand your ancestors. The original spellings as well as the meaning of the surname. I have spent over 30 years researching the family. My files date back to 1450 in Darmstadt Hessien, Germany. The original spelling would most definately look like this: "WANMECHER" and later "WANNEMACHER", but never would it have been Wenmecher. Remeber in early scribbs there were alot of spelling errors. I've seen many veriations over the years, but this is the first I've seen this error.

My website URL:

Be sure to look in the Coat of Arms section at my website.

Further there is no connection to the Wanamaker's of PA as yet, BUT no doubt there was a family unit in Germany long before they came to North America.

Feel free to email me personally if you have any questions about my website. It's there to help all Wannemacher researchers.

((I've left my spelling errors intact just to show you how easy it is to make a spelling mistake))
Good Luck!
