Obit for Cal Wammack, Dead (1917)
Mr. W.C. Wammack, familiarly known in this county as "Uncle Cal" died at his home last Friday afternoon. It seems tht he was unwell at the noon hour and after starting back to his work returned to the house and lay down across the bed.His wife thought he was asleep and did not bother him until late in the afternoon. When she called him he made no response, and upon examination she found that he was dead.Just how long it had been since he breathed the last could not be told. His remains were interred Saturday afternoon at Jacob's Chapel.Mr. Wammack had lived to the ripe old age of about 80 years. He had been married three times and had the unique distinction of having married three sisters. He raised a large family of children and always provided well for them.He was uneducated but a man of good common sense and judgment and one of the hardest workers this county has ever had.By sheer force of hard work and wise investment he accumulated quite a good deal of property and money. He was thoroughly honest and helped many poor people who were unable to get help elsewhere. He had many friends and all deeply regret his death. He will be much missed around Ripley, where his weekly visits have been made for more than fifty years, and even more in the community where he lived. The Sentinel (newspaper) deeply sympathizes with his loved ones in their great loss.
