Hi Carol:

Not much can be found on Mary E Walton since the 1940 Census data has not been published yet.

1930 Census shows her father James (born in Florida) was a war veteran and laboror in the building industry. Also living with them during the 1930 census was James' neice Priscilla Clark, age 20 and her daughter Dorothy L Clark (8 mos) as well as three members of the Lee family who were lodgers.

Mary would have been 14 years old when the 1940 Census was taken which is probably the last census prior to marriage and name change.
