If you search back through this forum by entering WEARDALE as a search term you will find lots of Walton families in the area.

I don't know of a direct connection between our two trees - but let me know if you can make one from the information below.

I am interested in a Walton family from Stanhope in Weardale, County Durham, England. The earliest names I have are Ralph and Margaret, who had sons William bp 1786, Featherstone bp 1788 and George bp 1794. William married Elizabeth Gowland in 1810 and their children were Margaret 1810, Elizabeth 1816, William 1819, Thomas 1822, Isabella 1825 and George 1831. Most of this generation were Primitive Methodists, baptised in the PM chapel at Westgate, Weardale. William, miner and local preacher, married Ellen Dawson in 1841 at Hamsterley and their children were Elizabeth Ann 1844, William 1852, John George 1857, Ralph 1862. The family moved around Durham from Evenwood to St Andrew Auckland to Brancepeth to Helmington Row to Crook by 1881. Elizabeth Ann married Michael Coates in 1869.
