John B. Walton-Lawsuit in 1805 in Virginia

In 1805 in a Fredericksburg, VA District Court lawsuit, John B. Walton was the plaintive, and Cary Smith, Oswald Smith and James Smith (who all lived in Spotsylvania Co., VA) were the defendants. Both Spotsylvania Co., VA and Prince Edward Co., VA (PECo) were mentioned (so I ASSUME that this was the John B. Walton who was out of the "PECo George Walton family"....but no proof). The "key" item mentioned in this lawsuit (I have only seen a summary) seems to be that a John Smith was the guardian of Elizabeth Smith Walton, a granddaughter of Oswald Smith (deceased). There was also a question raised in this lawsuit as to the possibility that the 1804 will of Oswald Smith had been forged. Does anyone know the "exact connection" between this John B. Walton and this Smith family (which I have "traced back" to a John Smith who died in Middlesex Co., VA in 1669)? Thanks!
