Mary Branch was born about 1687/89, but she did not marry Richard Walthall. She married John Walters.
John Frederick Dorman, compiler and editor, ADVENTURERS OF PURSE AND PERSON VIRGINIA 1607-1624/5, 4th ed., Vol. 1, Baltimore, MD:Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 2007."BRANCH," p. 370.
Dorman explained in note 41:"She may have been the (2) wife of John Walters, who left will 30 Sept. 1734-5 May 1735 (Henrico Co. Wills & Deeds 1725-37, p. 483), by whom she had a son John Walters, and have left will, now lost, proved Sept. 1767 (Henrico Co. Order Bk. 1767-69, p. 137).Malcolm Elmore Walthall, 'The Walthall Family' (typewritten; Charlotte, N.C., 1958), p. 13, however, suggests this surname was incorrectly written or transcribed in the will of Christopher {generation 3} Branch and her husband was Richard Walthall, who left will 19 June 1744-Oct. 1744 (Henrico Co. Miscellaneous Court Records 1650-1800, IV, p. 1271) naming wife Mary.No evidence is known to establish either identification."
John W. Pritchett, Compiler, SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA GENEALOGIES (Baltimore, MD:Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 2007) [CD], p. 1699.He gave her husband as Richard Walthall, but it is clear to me that she married John Walters and named her daughters Anne and Susannah after her sisters.Further, her father, Christopher Branch III, stated her name in his will as Mary Walter, which is obviously much closer to Walters than Walthall.
Her six siblings were Henry, Anne, Cicely, Obedience, Susannah, and Christopher. Her father named 4 children in his will, prepared 11 Aug 1727:Henry, Mary, Susannah, and Obedience. He had died by the time the will was recorded, 1 Jan 1727/8.His mother-in-law, Cicely (Knowles or Farrar) Sherman, named 3 more of his children in her 1703 will:Christopher, Cicely, and Ann.
