William Walthall, son of William and Mary, was born in Henrico county March 7, 1740/41 (a) and married Martha Field Archer.His father gave him 470 acres on the James River in 1770.(b)He furnished supplies for the continental army in 1780.(c)In the same year Field Archer deeded eleven negroes to "my son-in-law, William Walthall, husban of my daughter, Martha Field."(d)In the wills of both of her parents she is called "my daughter, Martha Field Walthall".(e)William died without a will, prior to Jul Court 1781, when Edward Archer and Wiliam Walthall took the oath to administer his estate.(f)In January 1783 William Downman was appointed guardian for Mary Walthall and in the following March, Archibald Walthall was appointed guardian for the other two daughters.(g)
