However, on census records, the name is written variously Warters, Watters, and Waters. The marriage certificate states Thomas Waters and Manerva Harris. Children of THOMAS WALTERS and MANERVA HARRIS are: 2. i. ANNA ELIZA2 WALTERS, b. 1842. ii. ISABELLA WALTERS, b. Abt. 1847; m. GEORGE THOMAS, 21 Apr 1868. iii. ROBERT WALTERS, b. Abt. 1850; m. MISSOURI EMELINE DELANCY; b. 19 Feb 1852; d. 27 Mar 1876. Notes for MISSOURI EMELINE DELANCY: Obituary Mrs. M.E. WALTERS, daughter of Thomas M. and Eliza J. DELANCY, and wife of R.C. WALTERS, departed this life March 27, 1876. She was born February the 19th 1852, and was married to R.C.WALTERS, May the 20th 1875. She died of that great enemy to mankind, consumption of the lungs. All the aid that medical skill and parental care could afford was resorted to, but could not rescue her from the inevitable Fate of all the living. Her health was feeble for several years. Previous to her death she professed hope in the meritorious death and resurection of Jesus. She after four months confinement bade her friends not to shed a tear for her, "for," said she, "it will be a glorious hour with me when the Lord takes me home out of my misery!" The last words she was heard to utter were, "sweet Jesus, take me home!" She was conscious to the last and became calm and quietly fell asleep without apparent misery. She has left a devoted husband, father, mother, brothers and sisters and many friends to mourn their loss. But we should not mourn for her as for those who have no hope. We hope the death of our friend may be sanctified to the eternal welfare of friends and relatives. Ours is loss, but we hope hers is eternal gain. Accord to the ties of Nature we are bound to lament her departure, but why should we, when we believe that-- "She has gone home to rest In Christ ever blest Where sickness, pain nor woe Again she shall not know, She has gone home to Heaven above Where all is joy, peace and love Where Jesus' name does sweetly ring She praises now her heavenly King. In heaven, oh, may we all meet, In fellowship and union sweet, And join our voice in one accord, In singing praises to the Lord." A Friend. iv.
