I tried to leave a follow-up on your other message, but was unable so am leaving one here. My great grandfather, James Hariam Walt was born in canada according to 1880 U.s. census. it also indicates his father was born in NY. the next I know is he inlisted in Michigan 4th calvary during civil war. Don't know much before that. Peter and angela Johnson have done more research on walts in Canada than anyone I know. You will find his listing later on the message page listed as P.Johnson. they have recently moved and have new email address tho.
