Establishing a Walston DNA Project is an excellent suggestion. Many of us go back on our lines to the 1700s and some to the 1600s but we can't seem to make a connection among the earliest immigrants.
As Walston Mailing List Administrator, I am compiling a list of the earliest Walston immigrants, where they first settled, and then what is known of their children and grandchildren (males for the DNA project) to identify where the immigrant's male descendants migrated.
So far I have posted 5 early immigrants. There are more to add. So far I have identified early settlement in New Haven Co., CT; Baltimore, MD (then to Somerset Co., MD); Norfolk Co., VA; Princess Ann Co., VA (may be same as Norfolk); Bertie Co., NC (probably from the early VA immigrant) to other NC counties.
Eventually, the sons and grandsons of these early immigrants migrated. From NC, some went to SC, to GA, to MS, to AL, and some eventually to Arkansas and Texas. From MD, a line went to KY, to Pickaway Co., OH, then to Illinois. There's more, but I'll end this post here.
