Joseph Walsh of Mississippi and Rusk Co., TX
Joseph Welch [Welsh/Walsh] was born about 1830/31 in Mississippi.
On 28 Jul 1851, he married Martha Bramley [Brumley] in Rusk Co., TX.
On 14 Jun 1860, he was enumerated on the federal census in Beat 1, Rusk Co., TX, aged 29, born in MS, with wife Martha A. (30, TN) and children George J. (7, TX), Sarah E. (4, TX), Brumley (2, TX), and M.E. (female, 3/12, TX), as well as two people of unknown relationship: Ellen (16, MS) and William (24, MS).
On 16 Mar 1862, he enlisted as a private in Co F, 17th Texas Cavalry, in Henderson, Rusk Co., TX.
On 14 Oct 1870, he was enumerated on the federal census in Henderson, Rusk Co., TX, as follows: Joseph Welch (40, MS), Martha (41, TN), George F. (17, TX), Sarah E. (14, TX), William B. (12, TX), Mary E. (8, TX), Maliss M. (6, TX), Jessee J. (female, 4, TX), Roland J. (1, TX).
That is the last record I have of Joseph Welch. On 3 Jun 1880, his wife Martha was enumerated in the federal census in the 92nd district of Tarrant Co., TX, her "Civil Condition" being "Widowed".
Martha is last seen on the 1900 census, in precinct 3 of Fannin Co., TX.
I believe that Martha was the daughter of William Brumley, who migrated from Tennessee to Texas about 1838. I am looking for clues to the origin of Joseph Welch/Welsh/Walsh.
