John I. Walradt 1807 res. Granby, Oswego Co., NY

John I. Walradt in 1807 purchased part of lot 74 in what was to become Granby, Oswego Co., NY. On 18 June 1818 a town meeting was held at John's house where he was elected an assessor. Of German descent John was b.26 Aug. 1782 in Canajoharie, NY. He was a Lt. & a Capt. in the War of 1812. In 1801 he had married Lucretia Hugunin, daughter of Daniel Hugunin, a part German, Part French family. They had 3 daughters: Gertrude, Mary and Ellen Eliza. Gertrude died in 1875. JOhn was a member of the Republican Party at its formation. Daughter Mary married a ____ Howell before 1877. Source: Crisfield Johnson, "History of Oswego co., NY," pub. 1877, p. 396.
