The WALPOLE Villages in Norfolk
I recently ran across a fascinating little book called "The Walpole Villages and Their People," by Reginald Charles WALPOLE, Regency Press, London & NY, 1979.The following comes from Chapter One and may be of interest to this forum:
"...some of my happiest days were in one of Norfolk's smallest villages of Walpole Cross Keys in which I was born...According to the books on Houghton Hall the Walpoles got their name from these fenland villages where they lived. This political family of Walpoles [later including Sir Robert] moved from this village to Houghton in Norfolk about the 12th century...I have good reason to believe that this family of Walpoles may have been my ancestors..."
