I don't have answers to all your questions, but perhaps the following notes that I have on James Walling might be of some assistance. The second note below does show "Fine" rather than "Pine." I'm not sure if I made a mistake transcribing or if the marriage compiler made a mistake or if the newspaper made a mistake. In any event, sounds as if you have several pieces of info to the effect that it should be "Pine" rather than "Fine." Sorry, but I've never researched any members of the Pine family.

Now a request: Do you happen to have the citations (page #s or other identifying info) for the state censuses to which you refer with the Walling households. I'd love to take a look at them when I'm in Salt Lake. I know that the NY state censuses are terrific.
