Thanks to a wonderful lady, Patricia, I have found my Joseph & Susannah (Cook) WALLIN in 1850 Brooklyn, after their arrival to NY in August 1845 (Susan and children), Joseph came earlier, with all their children, Richard, Thomas, John T., Mary Ann and "Carrie" born 1847 in NY, others born in Leicestershire area of England.

In 1850 they are in Brooklyn listed as "WALLACE"

This is their address in Brooklyn:
Brooklyn NY directories:

(other Wallin listings for Samuel and William elsewhere in Brooklyn)
1859: no Joseph or Susan Wallin listed

About 1858 the 3 older boys enlisted in the Army (John T.) and Richard and Thomas in the Navy. Before 1858, they were working for the H. Christian Hotel and Livery in Port Byron, Cayuga County, NY. Mary Ann Wallin married Horace John Christian in Dec. 1858.

By 1860, Carrie is living with the Benjamin Vannostrand/Van Ostrand family in Albion County, MI, listed as "Caroline" VanOstrand, per her Civil War widows pension file, her brother, John T. Wallin came from Sac City, Iowa to Albion, Calhoun County, MI in 1863 to escort her back to Mentz, Cayuga County, NY to live with their sister, Mary Ann (Wallin) Christian and in 1870 she is listed as "Clara" Wallin with her sister's family. By 1878 they all moved to Fredonia, Albion County, MI.

john T. Wallin married Hannah Carter and he moved his family to Napa, Napa County, CA where he lived until he died in 1920.

Mary Ann (Wallin) Christian died in Kalamazoo, MI in 1905 and Carrie M. (Wallin) Brown died in Kalamazoo, MI in Feb. 1920.

Does anyone know where Richard and Thomas Wallin may have gone after 1858?

In 1841 here they are in England:

1841 census, living in Chapel Row, St Luke, Chelsea. Note the rounding-down of adult ages in the 1841 census, as it applies to Joseph and Susan.
