Wallins in Sweden, Canada & USA

I am interested in the history of the "Wallin" name in Sweden, Canada and the United States.

My great grand father either took this name when he came to North America (about 1873) or it was his original family name in Sweden.

One story is that it came from a Swedish Military Unit, another is that it is a Swedish place name, another is that it is a religious name.

I would like to know.
