Dr. John and Mary who?
I have read enough about John Waller and Mary Pomfrett to
be convinced that none of these theories is worth betting on or against. Let me throw a "what if" into the conversation.
What if there were 2 Pomfrett brothers each with a daughter
named Mary? If one Mary married John Waller and the other
Mary never married then we have a situation that MIGHT
explain all the confusion. The single Mary (named Pomfrett) may have moved in with John and Mary, been of assistance or comfort to her and out-lived her. When John wrote his will he remembered her. Could be.
Or Mary Pomfrett who married John Waller could have had a
brother or cousin who married a Mary. He may have died early and his widow (now Mary Pomfrett) moved in with John and Mary.
A third angle is that the doctor's wife had a male cousin who married a Mary. As above, that Mary (now a Pomfrett)
moved in, etc.
This might be an approach that should be checked.
