First, let me say I am not a descendant of the Wallen family, I am however a descendant of one of their wives. My ancestor Susie {family rumuors say Shue} who first married Joseph Rogers. IN 1814 she was married to JAmes WAllen, {Lee County Court records}, it is believed that Joseph may have been a son of Doswell Rogers. Another descendant William Hurd Rogers I think, married a Wallen too. Anyway...I have researched James, I believe James Wallen is the son of John born 1750 died 1836 in McMinn. Elizabeth is found there in 1840 and 1850. As is a John Jr., my James, and a Jesse and Isaac...
Below with notes is what I have found on James Wallen...born 1783-1790 by census records...

Descendants of James Walling

Generation No. 1

1. JAMES1 WALLING was born Abt. 1790 in Tennessee, and died Bet. 1850 - 1860 in Tennesee. He married SUSIE UNKNOWN Abt. 1818. She was born Abt. 1790 in Virginia, and died Aft. 1870 in Tennesee.

Notes for JAMES WALLING:
Age 1850 is 60, age 1860 is 76 for both James and Susie. Based on 1850 Birth year 1790 approx.

1840 More than likely Jas Wallin, McMinn Co. age 50-60, with males 0011200100000 females 0101000100000,
Household 1840...one male 10-15, one male 15-20 {JOHN} , 2 males 30-40, one male 50-60, one female 5-10 {Nancy}, one female 15-20, and female 50-60 {Susan}

1830 census James Willin, McMinn Co. Age 30-40, Susie.. 30-40, female 5-10, males 1 5-10 2 under 5 {questionable if this is them, ages off by a decade for parents. }

Based on 1830 and 1840 census...should have son born 1820-1825 { John} , and another 1825-1830 and a daughter born 1820-1825. Nancy in 1850 is age 17 {born 1833}

1850 census, Isaac Wallen could be a brother and there is Elizabeth, age 70 next door. Large family for Isaac.

1840 Mc Minn Co. TN {all on same page James, Jesse, Elizabeth

Elizabeth Wallen household {probably widow of John who died 1836 per message board}....She is 50-60, in household are one male 5-10, one female 10-15, one female 5-10
Jesse Wallen household... age 40-50, wife 40-50, one male 5-10, one 10-15, one 15-20, one 20-30, 2 females 15-20
Isaac Wallen household..(4 pages over)One male 40-50, males 2 under 5, one 5-10, females, 2 10-15, and 1 under 5, 1 20-30

1830 Census...
Same page as James is John W. Willin age 20-30, female 30-40, with one male and female under 5

Notes for SUSIE UNKNOWN:
Shue was given as an oral tradition, but research is not proving this to be true.

Michael Rogers, fellow researcher, descendant of Edley, has found the same information, and has also provided me with copies of research on this family. In 1818 Susie apparently got her portion as a dower portion of land left to the heirs (land was a salt works) of Joseph Jefferson. The children were under age at the time, and sued some of the heirs of William Roberts Jr. and his wife Catherine Rogers, dtr of Doswell Rogers of Lee/Scott county, VA for their share of the land. Copies of the complaint are on hand, but the disposition is unknown. Susie and her husband, apparently moved to Tennessee, McMinn County. Susie has been found as late as 1880.

Found living with son in 1870 in Polk Co. TN

Children of JAMES WALLING and SUSIE UNKNOWN are:
       i.       NANCY2 WALLING, b. Abt. 1823, Tennessee; d. Unknown; m. JAMES T. SMITH, July 20, 1858, McMinn Co., TN; b. Abt. 1820; d. Unknown.
2.       ii.       JOHN WALLING, b. Abt. 1820; d. Aft. 1870.

Generation No. 2

2. JOHN2 WALLING (JAMES1) was born Abt. 1820, and died Aft. 1870. He married EMILY DILLON June 12, 1843 in McMinn Co., TN. She was born Abt. 1830, and died Aft. 1870.

Notes for JOHN WALLING:
