In "Elisha Wallen, The Longhunter", Matthew is mentioned several times as being in Lee Co. Va and Hawkins Co. TN, but there is no mention of parents or children. The land he sold to David Rogers was bought from Isaac Rice, husband of Margery Walling(Wallen) who was a sister of the longhunter.

The land is located in area where many Wallen families settled including another brother of the longhunter, Joseph. Joseph's or his son James' cabin, built in the 1790's, still stands in Kyles Ford TN.

So you see Matthew's father may have been any of the children of Elisha Wallen SR. including the longhunter.
